Atomos wurde mit dem Ziel gegründet, den Workflow der Videoindustrie durch die hergestellten Produkte nachhaltig  zu verbessern. Dies gelang Atomos schon mit ihrem ersten eigen-hergestelltem Produkt, dem Atomos Ninja: Der Ninja vereint einen hochqualitativen Monitor zur Nutzung am oder neben der Kamera, einen portablen HD und SD Rekorder, der direkt in Apple ProRes aufzeichnen konnte, mit einem Abspielsystem, um die Aufnahmen zu überprüfen.
